Vis is one component of the conference now known as "IEEE VisWeek", which is made up of three concurrent conferences with overlapping subject matter:

  • Vis covers scientific visualization
  • InfoVis covers information visualization
  • VAST covers visual analytics.

Particular applications of visualization, showcases of visualization systems and HCI research for visualation, generic studies of visualization, theory of visualization, and computational concerns are all at home at Vis. Accepted papers are published in a special issue of TVCG. One talk session is set aside for "lightning talks" during which each poster presenter gives a very short preview / sales pitch of their poster. The tone in this session is generally pretty light.
