CS295J/Literature to read for class 9
< CS295J
- HCI Course at UF Benjamin Lok. This is a course I took when at UF. The slides and links might be useful for those wanting a more of a background in HCI. (Gideon)
- Applying cognitive psychology to user-interface design Marshall, Nelson, and Gardiner, 1987. Dated, but sounds very relevant. Contains a chapter called "Design Guidelines." Unfortunately, I have not been able to find this book anywhere yet or the text available online. Will keep looking, but this may not be readable by Friday. E J Kalafarski 12:13, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
- Acting on a visual world: The role of multimodal perception in HCI. Wolff, F., Angelia, A., Romary, L. (1998). Short paper looking at the effects of perceptual organization on multimodal communication when using an interface. (Jon)
- Cognitive Load. Relevant to the problem of learning curves. One prediction from cognitive load theory is that when using an interface to do complex tasks, learning by doing becomes ineffective because of the cumulative working memory load. It also makes the important distinction of intrinsic-extrinsic load that we were discussing. (Adam)
